ROWMoJo – Empowerment through Rowing

‘World Rowing and WSNet unite to empower teenage girls through rowing’

A joint collaboration between FISA and the Women’s Sports Network to support teenage girls in competitive rowing is announced today at the World Rowing Coaching conference in Berlin.

This collaboration sees the release of ‘FREE to download’ ROWMoJo from the FISA/WorldRowing website as part of a joint commitment to empower girls through rowing. ROWMoJo is predicated on physical literacy but extends to help girls use ROWING to find confidence, physical strength and emotional robustness to overcome gender harassment and expect gender equality as a norm – both in sport and in everyday life.

MoJoManuals are based on ‘Physical Literacy’ – stable, confident movement around sport and in life. They also cover a range of other emotive issues such as: body image, diet, breast health, fit or thin?, social media, training with menstruation, coach attitude etc. – which often impact how girls engage/drop out of sport – and potentially go on to be elite athletes and confident, mature young women outside of sport.

FREE ROWMoJo – Rowers, athletes & coaches can download a FREE pdf copy from the FISA/WorldRowing website. HERE

Head of the River results

Thank you everyone for volunteering during the season and to State High for hosting the BSRA HoR

Thank you to all the BSRA member school volunteers throughout the season: The boat drivers, the boat holders, the boat towing people, the bow number distribution and collection, the rubbish bin distributors, the results data entry, and the people who ‘step up’ and offer a hand whenever something random is required. It’s a magnificent show of the generosity in the community and is tremendously appreciated.

Thank you State High!

WOW!!! What an amazing day… from pre-dawn preparations, through a magnificent day of rowing & hosting, to late evening counting… the State High Spirit was on display everywhere we turned at 2018 Head of the River.

Feedback throughout the day was outstanding. Many spectators and officials commented it was the favourite menu of the season (kudos to Julette!), were really impressed with the water bottles and environmental message (thanks to Hammond Recruitment, Endura & Brandition), and the raffle was a huge hit (thanks Kimberley Dripps, Endura & donors).

Our fabulous volunteers and donors…

A huge THANK YOU to every volunteer. Well over 120 girls’ and boys’ rowing parents, supporters, students, rowers, BSHS staff, coaches, siblings, and family pitched in to make the day such a success. Thank you to all the people that did back-to-back shifts all day, and those that spent the day in the sun – whether at the car park, BBQ’ing, roving sales, or on the competitor headland. It wasn’t only the girls who braved tough conditions!

Thank you also to everyone who donated items – the trailers, equipment, lollies, soft drinks, and homebake all boosted our profit.

Finally, 3 Cheers to the Coordinating Team… Michelle, Julette & Michael, Allison, Richard, Magnus, Jane & Jason, Amanda & Simon, Andrew, Jennifer & Ryan, Jo & Danny, Andy & Jeanne, Steve & Anne, Marie-Claire & Andrew. These people worked tirelessly over many weeks to bring the day together, and then have gone well above and beyond in the past few days.

Finances & Feedback…

We will tally the funds and expenses and will share the financial outcomes when everything is finalised.

HoR West End inspired menu, proudly hosted by BSHS

Brisbane State High are really excited to be hosting the 2018 BSRA Head of the River! We’ve put together a West End inspired menu to keep your rowers and spectators fuelled. Make the most of the opportunity to have someone else cater for the day, and leave the ‘plates’ and picnic basket at home.

We’re also trying some new things to celebrate HoR 2018…

This is a critical fundraising opportunity for our program, so we really appreciate your support.

See you at Wyaralong for a great day of racing!

Head of the River preparation information

Some need to knows for the spectator:

  1. Programs will be $10. Apologies but there is substantial cost in supplying the shuttle service and it needs to be recouped. You should consider supporter buses or carpooling if you are concerned with the cost here.
  2. The venue will CLOSE at 12 noon (40 minutes before the 1st8+ race). We will not be able to park you AND get you to the course in time for the racing if you arrive after this time.*

*(Parking at that late stage of the event will be in CP7 – which is at the entry to the Wyaralong Access Road near the Beaudesert-Boonah Road).
